Brewery with a mixed history. Founded 1858, taken over by the dreaded Watney's in 1986 then taken over by Dutch brewer Grolsch. Finally closed in 1998, when it was taken over by Morland, which itself fell victim to Greene King, so the beers are now brewed at Bury St Edmunds. The beer which GK calls Ruddle's County bears little similarity to the original.
Described by the first edition of the Good Beer Guide as 'Highly recommended when un-pressurised.'
